Lauryn Hill Pleads Guilty, Faces Years in Prison For Failure to Pay Taxes » Gossip - Singer Lauryn Hill just pleaded guilty to a federal crime, admitting she did not file several years' worth of tax returns in the past decade, and failed to do so on purpose no less.

The 37-year-old faces up to three years in prison as a result. Hill failed to pay up in 2005, 2006, and 2007, when she earned more than $1.8 million.

When the judge asked if Hill "intentionally and willingly" failed to file the returns, she said simply, "Yes." The Fugees frontwoman was released on $150,000 bail.

In addition to the three years behind bars, Hill could be hit with $75,000 in fines. Wonder if she can write that off to help reduce her tax liability for 2012.

Hill welcomed her sixth child in 2011; her first five were with her longtime partner Rohan Marley. Her sentencing hearing is set for November.

Savannah Guthrie Confirmed By NBC as Today Co-Host » Gossip - It felt all but official this morning, but NBC finally and formally announced that Savannah Guthrie will be the new co-anchor of Today.

Savannah Guthrie debuted Friday but no mention was made on-air.

She had been rumored to be the network's preferred replacement for Ann Curry, who had fallen out of favor with executives and Matt Lauer.

Ann Curry's farewell speech yesterday ended her 14-year tenure at Today, but she only served as Lauer's co-anchor for the last 12 months.

Rumors of NBC firing her began surfacing late last week.

Today executive producer Jim Bell released a statement announcing Savannah's new position, lauding the journalist's unique skill set.

Guthrie "has a one-of-a-kind combination of sharp wit and approachability," Bell said, adding that Today viewers continually "value [Guthrie's] journalistic skills and legal background just as much as her humor and charm."

Bell added of Savannah, "She can effortlessly go from interviewing the Secretary of State to jumping Olympic-sized hurdles on the plaza."

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes to Divorce; Actress Files For Sole Custody of Suri » Gossip - Now that's a celebrity breakup we did not see coming today. After more than five years of marriage, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are getting a divorce.

While many of us were skeptical when they first got together and Tom was proclaiming his love for her on Oprah's couch, the divorce still comes out of left field.

"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," says Holmes' attorney Jonathan Wolfe, confirming the TomKat split Friday.

"Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."

After a relatively brief courtship, the Rock of Ages star, 49, married the former Dawson's Creek star Holmes, 33, in an Italian castle in 2006.

They have one daughter, six-year-old Suri.

No reason was given for the impending Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes divorce, but the couple has not been seen in public together since February (below).

This was Holmes' first marriage and the third for Cruise, who previously was married to Nicole Kidman, with whom he has two adopted children, and Mimi Rogers.

It is unclear if divorce papers have formally been filed, but Tom and Katie are believed to have a prenuptial agreement, and are worth at least $275 million.

Obviously, Tom's earnings comprise the bulk of that, but Kate will no doubt receive a significant settlement. Here's wishing both the best in this tough time.

UPDATE, 2:11 EDT: Katie filed for divorce in New York on June 28, citing the catch-all "irreconcilable differences." She makes no mention of the prenup.

She is asking for sole legal custody and "primary residential custody" of Suri and for a "suitable amount" of child support, plus a division of property.

According to TMZ, Tom "did not see this coming" and there is some "nastiness" going on here, as evidenced by Katie's move to get sole legal custody.

UPDATE, 4:00 EDT: Tom is "very sad," according to another source.

Photos show he was seen wearing his wedding ring just two days ago while filming a new movie in Iceland; Katie also wore her ring this week in New York.

Cruise's rep also released a brief statement saying:

"Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy to work this out."

The Government wants the Judge to sentence Chaney to 71 months in the slammer (almost 6 years) and to pay restitution to his victims including $7,500 to Christina Aguilera, $66,179.46 to Scarlett Johansson, $76,767.35 to Renee Osltead (Madison in “The Secret Life of the American Teenager) and $10,000 to the AFTRA Health Fund just because.

The Judge will consider the Government’s recommendation for sentencing and any factors for a lesser sentence that the defense introduces and will issue the final sentence on July 23.

‘Dexter’ Series Finale Planned For 2013 » Gossip - Sara Colleton, the Executive Producer for Showtime’s hit ‘Dexter’ has revealed that season 8 will be the final season or Dexter Morgan.

Season 7 is set to air on September 13, which will address the little snaffoo created by Debra Morgan when she walked into the room and saw Dexter doing the dirty deed . . . murder.

Sara Colleton revealed that she and the other execs actually wanted season 7 to be the last, but that Showtime convinced them that it would be better to wind up Dexter’s big reveal over two seasons, so that’s what will be done. She said,

We wanted to end it this year, but the network convinced us that it would be best to do it in two years. In some ways, this is a two-season series-ender. We have worked that out and know where it’s going to end. Next year will definitely be the last year of ‘Dexter.’ Absolutely.

Eight seasons must be the magic number on Showtime, because the network also just revealed that ‘Weeds’ would be done after its 8th season as well.

Season 8 will also feature Ray Stevenson (‘The Other Guys” “Thor”) will play some dude named Isaac, who will be the leader of a Russian organized crime ring.

According to Washington Post columnist and Ephron’s close friend, Richard Cohen, Ephron died due to complications from the blood disorder myelodysplasia, which she was diagnosed with six years ago.

Nora had written several timeless Hollywood romances, including ”You’ve Got Mail,” “When Harry Met Sally,” and “Sleepless in Seattle.”

Lilo Settles With More Past Victims » Gossip - Lindsay Lohan has finally reached a settlement with the three guys that she allegedly abducted in her car in 2007 and forced to accompany her in a chase that resulted in a DUI.

The three men cried scared after the police took control of the situation and later filed a lawsuit against Lindsay, which she was not able to properly handle until her probation was complete. Now that Lindsay has some income coming in and she’s resolved the criminal issues stemming from this incident and other ones, she is able to put the civil damages issues to rest as well.

The exact terms of the settlement are unknown at this time, but I’m sure they are happy with the deal. The civil lawsuit against Lindsay is scheduled to be dismissed shortly.

Next on the list: dealing with the guy that she allegedly hit with her car outside of a club, after she completed her probation.

Having already confirmed her departure from Today, it was business as usual for Ann Curry as she began her final day on the NBC morning show.

The anchor's voice came on the air at exactly 7 a.m. EDT, informing about raging fires in Colorado, a new diet pill and Obama's health care law.

It wasn't until 8:50 a.m. that Curry got around to her farewell announcement. And what an emotional farewell it was. Watch her speech below:

Curry is expected to be named Today anchor-at-large, which she hinted at briefly in her speech, with Savannah Guthrie likely taking over her post.

Ann was fighting back tears even as she began, "This is not easy to say, but today's going to be my last morning as regular co-host of Today."

She paused as her voice cracked.

"This is not as I expected, to ever leave this couch after 15 years, but I am so grateful, especially to all of you who watch because Matt and I - and everyone who sits on this couch - we often call ourselves a family, but YOU are the real Today show family."

"You are why I have ventured into dangerous places and interviewed dictators and jumped out of planes and off of bridges and climbed mountains and landed in the South Pole and convinced the Dalai Lama to come live in our studio."

"I have loved you and I have wanted to give you the world, and I still do."

She said she'll get "a fancy new title," and "go all over the world and all over the county at a time when this country and this world needs clarity."

With increasing emotion, she went on:

"I don't even know if I can sleep in anymore after all these years! But I know whatever time I wake up, I'll be missing you. And I'll be believing in you. I love all of you, especially all of you who are behind the scenes, behind the cameras. I love you guys."

Making matters worse, when they refuse to work with the south-of-the-border drug lords, their shared girlfriend becomes the bargaining chip of the whole ordeal.

Also starring Salma Hayek, Benicio Del Toro, Emile Hirsch and Demian Bichir, “Savages” is slated to hit theaters on July 6th.

The UK outing comes as the "American Idol" alum has been chosen to step into the shoes of former Queen frontman Freddie Mercury - as Adam is teaming up with the legendary band to perform around Europe with shows set to begin in a mere few days.

In a recent interview with BBC Breakfast, Lambert dished about the opportunity, saying, "It's such a great challenge, I'm so excited. We've been rehearsing for the last few weeks and it's actually surprisingly comfortable.''

50 Cent Hospitalized After Serious Car Crash » Gossip - A serious car wreck left 50 Cent hospitalized with possible injuries to his neck and back, according to a website affiliated with the rapper, This is 50.

The crash involved his SUV and a mack truck, apparently.

It happened early this morning on the Long Island Expressway just outside N.Y. City. The truck rear-ended 50's SUV, which "almost flipped over."

The star was taken a nearby hospital, where, according to the site, doctors ran tests on his neck and back. Fortunately, he checked out fine.

A rep for Curtis Jackson (50's real name) confirms:

"He was taken to New York Hospital Queens where he was treated for minor neck and back injuries. He was released this morning and is doing fine."

Good to hear. Hopefully he recovers quickly and fully from the scary incident. In other 50 news, the rapper recently quashed his beef with Oprah.

It's this sad turn of events that makes the final season of Teen Mom so gut wrenching. On tonight's episode, her time in rehab in Malibu, Calif., is chronicled.

"I brought Leah with me but I guess we can't be together," he says, and after an embrace, the couple part ways so Amber Portwood can visit with Leah.

"This is where Mommy's been living for a while," Portwood tells her.

Despite her recent legal troubles, Portwood has vowed to keep up her relationship with Shirley and their little girl as much as possible while behind bars.

Good luck with that, given your five-year sentence. Hopefully Jenelle Evans and Gary Head take note, because they're heading down the same road.

Casey Abrams Speaks on New Album, Important Cause » Gossip - During his season 10 run on American Idol, Casey Abrams was anything but predictable. Viewers really had no idea what they were in for each week, as this aspiring singer advanced farther and farther in the competition.

With Casey's first album as a signed artist out today, THG asked what fans can look forward to and he was pretty straightforward: More of the same!

"Expect fun," he said. "There are some singer/songwriter vibes, some upright guitar. A little bit of everything."

Abrams has remained an Idol viewer since leaving the show ("I feel like I have to be," he says. "It's like a high school reunion each year. I keep going back."), but he's also taken on a new cause: IBD spokesperson.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease affects 1.4 million people, including Casey, who was hospitalized during his time on Idol but hesitant to discuss why.

But he's since joined up with IBDIcons and released a music video that fan club members can view.

"It's more of a common disease than I realized," Abrams said. "It's smart to create awareness about it, so I figured I'd make a music video. Kids watch music videos, right?"

That they do. They also continue to make American Idol the most-watched show on television. Does Casey have advice for any of the top 10 about to go on tour this summer?

"Don't get a big head. That's the main thing. There's a lot of talent out there, so as long as they keep their head on straight, they should be fine."

Meanwhile, if you wanna see Casey playing at a venue near you over the next few weeks, you might have the chance. He'll be heading out on the road in promotion of his album.

"I'm just packing up my little Grand Marquis, maybe my ukulele, and we'll see where the wind takes me," he says.

Selena Gomez Plans New Album, Tour » Gossip - Selena Gomez has taken a break from luxurious dates with adorable superstars to talk about her professional future - and she wants it to include music.

Speaking to E! News at a press preview of Hotel Transylvania - one of three movies Selena filmed this year - the 19-year old said she misses recording and hopes to get started on a new record soon.

"I want to be able to write about things I've never talked about before and tell a story with this album because I've never actually had time to go in and do that. I've never worked on a song for more than two days," Gomez said.

So does this mean Selena will be opening up to the world about Justin Bieber? Not exactly.

"It's not going to be necessarily, 'Here's my tell-all,'" she says. "It's going to be more of something that people could say, 'It could be that or it could be this or it could that.' At the end of the day I only make my music because I want it be really fun and if I could have people dance to it, relate to it, have a good time, that's all I want."

Mentioning that she's inspired these days by Jason Mraz and Parachute, Selena added that she also plans to reunite with Rock Mafia and Toby Gad. She then plans to go on tour in promotion of the CD.
